Helena Trestikova's film "René", wich has been selected for this year's DOK Leipzig International Competition Documentary Film, now has won the European Film Award in the category "Documentary (Prix Arte)". The prize will be awarded on the 6th of December in Copenhagen.
The Jury statement reads as follows:
"This is a film which tells a powerful story - filmed over 20 years - about an extraordinary character on the edge of society. It is a longitual documentary of outstanding quality. The jury found its examination of the relationship between subject and filmmaker fascinating and thought-provoking."
Further nominees: "Kinder. wie die Zeit vergeht" (Thomas Heise, DOK Leipzig Silver Dove Award Winner 2007), "La Mére" (Antoine Cattin & Pavel Kostomarov, DOK Leipzig International Programme Documentary Film 2007), "Man on Wire" (James Marsh, DOK Leipzig International Programme 2008) and "Obcan Havel" (Pavel Koutecký & Miroslav Janek, DOK Alliance 2008).
