2008/10/22 DOK Leipzig Competition Film 2008 Wins European Film Award!

Helena Trestikova's film "René", wich has been selected for this year's DOK Leipzig International Competition Documentary Film, now has won the European Film Award in the category "Documentary (Prix Arte)". The prize will be awarded on the 6th of December in Copenhagen.

The Jury statement reads as follows:
"This is a film which tells a powerful story - filmed over 20 years - about an extraordinary character on the edge of society. It is a longitual documentary of outstanding quality. The jury found its examination of the relationship between subject and filmmaker fascinating and thought-provoking."

Further nominees: "Kinder. wie die Zeit vergeht" (Thomas Heise, DOK Leipzig Silver Dove Award Winner 2007), "La Mére" (Antoine Cattin & Pavel Kostomarov, DOK Leipzig International Programme Documentary Film 2007), "Man on Wire" (James Marsh, DOK Leipzig International Programme 2008) and "Obcan Havel" (Pavel Koutecký & Miroslav Janek, DOK Alliance 2008).

2008/09/29 First Information about Festival Programme 2008 Online!

Which films made it into the competitions? What will be shown within the retrospective? Which interesting topics are going to be discussed during the DOK Summits?

The complete programme with detailed information about dates and places will be online from mid-Oktober on.

2008/09/16 Film Selection Completed!

This year about 2.400 films have been submitted to our festival . After submission deadline on 18 July the real challenge of the selection commitee began: Watching, discussing, selecting and arranging!

The aim was to choose the films for four competition sections (International Competition for Documentary Film, International Competition for Animated Film, Young Documentary Talent Competition – Generation DOK, German Competition for Documentary Film) as well as for the International Programme.

The selection commitee has made its choice for 2008 – now organisation issues take over!

On 25 september the festival management will announce the selection for the competitions in a press conference.

2008/09/03 Accreditation Form 2008 Online!

From now on, you can download our accreditation form for the 51th International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film.

Accreditation deadline is 9 October 2008.
