1. DOK Market – Marketing for your film

DOK Market offers accredited professional guests the opportunity to view all the documentary and animated films featured at the festival, as well as additional documentary films chosen by the selection committee. The digital media library is located in the basement of the Festival Centre (Leipzig Museum of Fine Art) and is open throughout the festival from 10 am to 10 pm (Sunday 10 am to 2 pm). DOK Market is intended exclusively for festival representatives, television broadcast editors and purchasers, marketing experts and distributors from 10 am to 6 pm. From 6 pm until closing the video library is open to all accredited guests.

We recommend that viewing stations be reserved in advance.

DOK Market helps you distribute and publicise your films to national and international industry representatives. We support you with additional communication features in order to generate as much interest in your film at DOK Market as possible.

We host a daily GET TOGETHER from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in the festival room, at which people in the industry can meet and share their experiences.

In addition, every day from 19 to 23 October an introduction to the various user options of DOK Market and of the WHO’S-WHO of the international industry will be held from 10:30 to 11 am.

The introduction will begin in the DOK Industry Lounge (Festival Centre/Zündkerzen-Saal in the basement).

After the festival you will be sent a viewing protocol for your film.

2. Which films are included in the DOK Market?

All films being shown in the festival are available at DOK Market.

Every year the DOK Leipzig selection committee also chooses an additional 100 films especially for DOK Market.

Our partners East Silver (Czech Republic), Krakow Film Foundation (Poland), Visions du Réel / Swiss Films (Switzerland), Sheffield Doc/Fest (Great Britain) and Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival (China) include films featured at their festivals as well.

3. How are films selected?

Films with international sales potential are chosen by the festival’s selection committee and suggested by our external partners for DOK Market. We then contact the producers of the selected films and offer them the opportunity to include their film. If you would like to suggest a film for DOK Market that we may have missed, please contact Susanne Guggenberger at the DOK Market office:

Tel.: 49 341 308 64 29

Suggestions are always welcome. DOK Market, however, remains a curated market. That means that not every film suggested will be included. DOK Leipzig selects films from the best productions of the last 12 months.

Films can be presented for consideration for DOK Market 2010 from mid July until the end of August 2010.

4. How can your film be presented most effectively?

It is a definite advantage if you are present at the festival to speak about your film. DOK Market is a chance that you can use to advance your film’s marketing. Use our services, contact industry representatives directly and point out that your film is included in DOK Market. The biggest hurdle is convincing someone that your film is worth seeing. Use the opportunities that the festival offers! Professionals viewing films at DOK Market can contact you by e-mail as they watch your film.

Use your page in the marketing catalogue! Here your film will be presented with a photo, description of contents and sales information. Please send all these materials to us by 31 August 2010.

Printed copies of the catalogue will be handed out to industry representatives and also sent by mail to around 170 international television purchasers. A .pdf version of the catalogue is available for download on our website.

Send us your posters, postcards and flyers! We’ll hang your poster at DOK Market and present your postcards and flyers on our information tables. To do so we must have received your materials by Friday, 15 October 2010.

5. What are the fees of DOK Market?

The market fee is €96.30 (€90 plus 7% value added tax). This fee only covers a portion of the overall costs for the digitalisation, viewing stations and publication of the catalogue. This fee is not required for films included in the festival programme (films shown in cinemas).

6. What happens after the festival?

When the festival week is over we send viewing protocols to everyone who viewed films at DOK Market or had a film presented.

In the protocol for viewers, all the films watched with sales contact information will be listed. Their comments to the film makers and personal notes will also be included.

In the protocol for those whose film was presented will appear the name, position and contact information of everyone who viewed the film. If comments were left for the film makers, these will also appear in the protocol.

7. Important notice

DOK Market is not a marketing platform with sales stands, trade show or pitching forum, nor is it an online platform connected to the Internet. The films are available exclusively at DOK Market. DOK Market offers a film additional publicity, but no sales guarantee.
