Each member of the selection committee had one vote for all selected projects. Katrin Klingan and both producers hold the casting vote and should there be a tie among the other committee members and also have advisory and consulting position.

1. The film project and idea:
   - Is it an outstandingly creative, artistic and author-driven documentary?
   - Does the idea of innovative, inventive or similar films already exist?
2. Dramatic structure of the film project:
   - Is there a clear and convincing idea of the dramatic structure and story?
   - Quality of and access to the protagonist(s)?
3. Cinematic concept and sound design:
   - Detailed explications of the visual approach?
   - Music, voice over, etc.?
   - Ideas regarding the montage?
4. Track record of the applicant (and other team members):
   - Experienced or up-and-coming filmmaker/ members of the creative team.
5. Practicability of the film project concerning timeline, financial and practical conditions
   - Length of the film, financing capabilities.

During the two-day meeting, the selection committee agreed together on the 6 participating two substitute directors that will enter the BREATHLESS- project for artistic documentary films.
Interviews took place in FAMU (FILM AND TV SCHOOL OF THE ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS) in Prague from May 22 to 23, 2008.

After discussions with all pre-selected and interviewed applicants, 6 projects (3 CZ 3 GER) and 2 substitutes (one from each country) have been picked up.
Institute of Documentary Film received 33 proposals; DOK Leipzig 98. 19 projects with their directors were pre-selected and attending the interview. Final results are: 3 Czech Project 1 substitute; 3 German projects 1 substitute. All selected directors, as well as the substitute directors will attend a creative workshop in July.

Each member of the selection committee used his/her vote for each selected projects. Discussion went through all criteria, with the most important points concerning personal asset to the project, benefit from the workshop, visual and sound idea, strong story and characters, and if the project is suitable for "Breathless"-theme.
Finally, four Czech and four German directors with their creative team members will enter the first phase of the project and attend the creative workshop focused on project development. This conclusion was brought as the idea into discussion and includes two substitutes in the project's creative workshop.

By the end of summer or beginning of the autumn, it will be determined which of the selected projects will enter the second phase of Breathless and start the intensive cooperation with producers Jiří Konečnı and Stefan Kloos.
