Flashback - Your reminiscenes

DOK Leipzig, the Leipziger Volkzeitung and MDR FIGARO appeal to their viewers, readers and listeners: think back on 50 years of the Leipzig DOK festival! Perhaps you discovered your love of films here, had an unforgettable encounter, were witness to a historic situation, met the love of your life?

We need your stories, photos, audio and visual documents as content for the Flashback campaign. The best, most interesting and exciting reminiscences have been published in autumn in the Leipziger Volkszeitung, broadcast on MDR FIGARO or shown in an anniversary exhibition staged at the DOK Leipzig.

Retrospectives from 1960-2007

The first festival retrospective, in 1960, was dedicated to "The man with the camera", Dziga Vertov. Since then, each year has seen a presentation of the most significant films on specific subjects. From 1962 until 1989 the compilation of the programme was the responsibility of the GDR State Film Archive, since 1990 the task has been performed by the Federal Archive-Film Archive Berlin.

Festival Exhibition: "DOK Leipzig - Sequences 1-6"

The history of the festival was also on view at the Museum der bildenden Künste (Museum of Visual Arts): an exhibition marking 50 years of DOK Leipzig used historic film extracts, image material, contemporary interviews, original posters and other documents to portray the image of a festival whose significance was always closely linked to the subtext of official history. Visitors to the exhibition, which was on show during the festival week, were requested to contribute to writing the history of the festival: an interactive wall awaited reminiscences old and new, experiences and tales that round off the image of what the festival was and is.

The exhibition was opened during the festival week from 10am to 5pm.
